Beholder Soyleform basket by Ingrid Becker

Beholder basket Soyleform in Ingrid Becker's tanned goatskin .

Unique piece, 2023.

Textile techniques—weaving, embroidery, knotting, and binding—are central to Ingrid Becker's work. She constantly explores how... Traditional textile methods can be transformed, combined and fused to give rise to experimental woven pieces in bark, wicker, rattan, goatskin and peduncles of the Phoenix palm which she cultivates herself in Fosen, in Trøndelag, and which she also collects during her travels.

For more than twenty years, Ingrid Becker has been exploring the possibilities of the container, both as a sculptural form and as a bearer of meaning.

Ingrid Becker was born in 1952 in Stockholm and lives and works on a small farm in Stadsbygd, Trøndelag. Trained in textile arts and pedagogy, she has worked in Norway as a craftswoman and artist since 1977. She primarily develops sculptural woven forms made from natural materials such as bark, willow, roots, reeds, and other plant fibers.

Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the Annual Norwegian Crafts Exhibition in 2017 and 2023. They have joined the collections of the National Museum in Oslo, KODE in Bergen, and the Nordenfjeldske Museum of Decorative Arts.
