Small vase by David Whitehead
Small ceramic vase by David Whitehead.
Born in 1959, in Cape Town, South Africa, David Whitehead worked as a surveyor for five years, which took him to different countries.
In 1986, by discovering ceramics at the 'Terra Potter' workshop in South Africa, David decided to make a new professional start.
He went to Scotland to train with different potters and settled in La Borne in 1994 where he built a wood-fired kiln in which firings could last up to 5 days.
“I cut, rasp and tap the pieces during manufacturing so that the surfaces and angles catch the light, the slips and enamels are applied spontaneously or even experimentally to maintain freshness and surprise me.”
The works of the ceramist sculptor are exhibited in France, United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Holland, Denmark and South Africa.
