Sculpture "Weaving Memories No. 2" by Grete McNorton

Grete McNorton's "Weaving Memories No. 2" porcelain sculpture.

Unique piece.

Grete McNorton, born in 1963, lives and works in Caylus, Tarn and Graronne.

For twenty years, visual artist Grete McNorton has co-organized the DRAWInternational research center in Caylus with her husband. In 2023, she sought, in her own practice, to break away from the use of polluting materials such as fiberglass or resin. Very quickly, porcelain imposed itself on her, offering it an unsuspected versatility. She combines it with textiles (sheep's wool, textiles made from plant fibers) and graphics, raising questions about the construction of volume and the status of the domestic object, echoing artists such as Eva Hesse and Tony Cragg.

She creates her paper porcelain works using textiles as a support, incorporating wire, oxides and charcoal powder, which enrich the surface and color.
