Jar I by Ingrid Becker

Jar I in willow bark and rattan by Ingrid Becker.

Unique piece.

Textile techniques such as weaving, embroidery, knotting, and lashing are at the heart of Ingrid Becker's work. She continuously explores how traditional textile methods can be transformed, combined, and fused to create experimental woven pieces using bark, willow, rattan, goatskin, and date palm peduncles from the Phoenix palm, which she cultivates herself in Fosen, Trøndelag, and also collects during her travels.

For over twenty years, Ingrid Becker has been exploring the possibilities of the container, both as a sculptural form and as a bearer of meaning.

Ingrid Becker was born in Stockholm in 1952 and lives and works on a small farm in Stadsbygd, Trøndelag. Trained in textile arts and pedagogy, she has worked in Norway as a craftswoman and artist since 1977. She primarily develops sculptural woven forms made from natural materials such as bark, willow, roots, reeds, and other plant fibers.

Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the Norwegian Crafts Annual Exhibition in 2017 and 2023. They are part of the collections of the National Museum in Oslo, KODE in Bergen, and the Nordenfjeldske Museum of Decorative Arts.
