Beaked gargoyle, direct stone carving by Guillaume Campredon

Spout gargoyle by Guillaume Campredon.

Unique piece in Saint Maximin stone, direct cutting, 2024.

Guillaume Campredon is a French sculptor born in Versailles (France) in 1991. He works mainly with limestone and granite.

He discovered sculpture during his studies in semiotics, and deepened his practice in a self-taught manner. His doctoral thesis defended in October 2021 at the University of Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas and entitled, "For a theory of the augmented sign, semiotics of the monster in society. The media and political trajectories of the sign and the Pokémon franchise", nourishes his artistic approach in complementarity.

In the context of contemporary creation, he explores the capture of signs and their inscription in stone. His work is a confluence, a constant dialogue between plant, animal and mineral universes. The themes of bestiary and botany water his artistic research: a research that crosses geographical spaces and ages.

He is one of the winners of the Hermès 2023 academy of know-how dedicated to stone. The program, supported by the Hermès Corporate Foundation, aims to explore the material stone, from its formation to its uses, in a collective intelligence approach.
