Drawing “Fiction 12” by Martinet & Texereau

Drawing Fiction 12 by Martinet & Texereau, graphite on paper.

Unique piece, made in their Montreuil workshop, 2020.

Zoé and Pauline have been working together since 2008. Their practice is primarily oriented toward drawing. They do not seek to confront or create a dialogue between their two styles of writing: "we want to create a new one that is common to us."

Beyond sharing ideas and desires, working together is for them a way to remove the solitary aspect of drawing, to desacralize the bond between the drawing and its drawer. Their drawings create a never-complete repertoire of objects, places, and architectures that leaves them with the possibility of being enriched. Series and repetition are important aspects of their work. They often start with a detail, an isolated, anecdotal element that they try to replace in its original context. It then becomes the starting point for research, a pretext for expanding the subject. Each drawing allows for a different perspective on these elements. It enhances them, distinguishes them.

Their work is a safeguard, an attempt to distance themselves from insignificant objects that are nonetheless significant and remain in the state of more or less vivid memories. With simple means, they aim to bring the viewer to take a fresh look at the simple things in life, those that are no longer looked at out of habit and are often poorly considered.
