Claire Lézier's guacamole cup
Ceramic guacamole cup by Claire Lézier.
Unique piece made by hand in his Brussels workshop.
Originally from Nantes, Claire Lézier has lived and worked in Brussels since 2011. She has participated in several group exhibitions as well as art and ceramics fairs in Biarritz, Paris, and Brussels. Her ceramic practice approaches the object in a figurative and sculptural way. Her artistic language borrows as much from academic as from popular arts, and integrates contemporary cultural references. She likes to create analogies and shifts by infusing her work with a certain poetic surrealism, tinged with humor.
These subjects are representations of the banal, juxtaposed with more contemporary codes, flirting with the magic of science fiction or fantasy universes. The everyday and domestic object is linked to the history of ceramics and its uses, she questions and plays with this notion of function. Sometimes a functional sculpture, sometimes a facsimile of a common object, she plays with the effects of scale. Through her realistic, sometimes mannerist modeling, she tries to capture the impalpable and the sensitive: an emotion-memory, a suspended moment, or a perplexed silence.
